Bandipora, Aug 13 (KNO): Inhabitants of Pathkoot village in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district on Thursday complained that their area is without potable drinking water from last three months while the concern department is paying no attention towards their sufferings. Talking to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the villagers said that administration has failed to provide the basic facilities to the people. The villages facing acute water scarcity include Pathkoot, Yali, Nowgam, Badibath and Bhat Mohalla in Bandipora district. The villagers said that Jal-Shakti department has left them on god’s mercy, adding that the department has miserably failed to provide drinking water to them. They said that they have approached the authorities many times and received assurance of getting the regular water supply soon but no step has been taken by them in this regard so far. They said their women folk face lot of hardships in fetching water from different spots. “This summer season, we are without drinking water while the concerned authorities don’t pay attention to our sufferings,” they said. The locals said that the government should look into the matter at an earliest so that residents here could heave a sigh of relief. “We are being forced to fetch and consume filthy water from a nearby stream as there is no proper drinking water supply in the area,” said Khateeb Ahmad, a local resident of Pathkoot. Meanwhile, the residents of the affected villages here appealed the district administration and Jal-Shakti department to look into the matter—(KNO)
